PM Surya Ghar Yojana 2025: the complete subsidy guide for Odisha

Everything a homeowner in Odisha needs to know to claim up to ₹1,38,000 in combined Central + State subsidy towards rooftop solar — explained in plain language.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is the Government of India's flagship rooftop solar scheme, launched to help crores of households generate their own electricity and slash their power bills. For families across Odisha, it's the single biggest reason solar has never been more affordable.

But between portals, paperwork and DISCOM approvals, the process can feel confusing. This guide breaks it down — and at Jaypee Solar, we handle every step of it for you.

How much subsidy will you actually get?

In Odisha you get two subsidies — the Central PM Surya Ghar grant and a separate Odisha State grant — paid together. The amount depends on your system size:

System sizeCentral (PM Surya Ghar)Odisha StateTotal subsidy
1 kW₹30,000₹25,000₹55,000
2 kW₹60,000₹50,000₹1,10,000
3 kW₹78,000₹60,000₹1,38,000
Above 3 kW₹78,000₹60,000₹1,38,000 (capped)
In short: the Central grant gives ₹30,000/kW for the first 2 kW + ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW (max ₹78,000), and the Odisha State grant adds ₹25,000/kW for the first 2 kW + ₹10,000 for the 3rd kW (max ₹60,000) — a combined ₹1,38,000 for a 3 kW residential system.

The Odisha State subsidy — extra savings on top

Here's what many homeowners miss: on top of the central PM Surya Ghar grant, the Government of Odisha offers its own rooftop solar subsidy. The two are stacked together and paid out alongside each other, dramatically lowering what comes out of your pocket.

  • ₹25,000 per kW from the State for the first 2 kW.
  • +₹10,000 from the State for the 3rd kW.
  • Up to ₹60,000 in State subsidy — added to the ₹78,000 Central subsidy.

For a typical 3 kW home, that's a combined ₹1,38,000 off — often more than two-thirds of the whole system cost. Jaypee Solar files both the central and state applications for you.

Who is eligible?

  • You must be an Indian resident who owns the house (or has permission to install).
  • You need a valid electricity connection in your name.
  • You should have a shadow-free rooftop with enough space — roughly 100 sq. ft. per kW.
  • You must not have already availed a rooftop solar subsidy for the same connection.

The step-by-step process

Officially, applying involves several stages on the national portal and with your local distribution company (TPNODL / TPCODL in Odisha). Here's the journey:

  • Register on the PM Surya Ghar portal with your electricity account and mobile number.
  • Apply for feasibility approval from your DISCOM.
  • Install through a registered vendor (like Jaypee Solar) once approved.
  • Net-metering is installed and the system is inspected.
  • Subsidy is released to your bank account, typically within 30–45 days of commissioning.
With Jaypee Solar, you don't touch a single form. We register, apply, document and follow up — you just sign where needed and enjoy the savings.

What documents do you need?

  • Latest electricity bill
  • Aadhaar card and a passport-size photo
  • Bank account details (for subsidy transfer)
  • Proof of property ownership

Is it really worth it?

Absolutely. A 3 kW system that might cost around ₹1.8 lakh comes down to roughly ₹42,000 after the combined ₹1,38,000 subsidy (Central ₹78,000 + Odisha State ₹60,000) — and it can wipe out most of a typical household's electricity bill. Most homeowners recover that in just 1.5–2 years, then enjoy 20+ years of nearly free power.
